First impressions

I've always been a big fan of urban bags with a Roll Top opening. I think this opening system gives the bag a really nice “New Yorker Messenger” look.

So when Osprey offered me to test their Transporter Roll in its Black Camo color, I didn't hesitate for a second. This color is just perfect for urban use. Dark enough not to see spots and attractive enough to stand out from the crowd.

Like its big brothers from the Transporter range, the Transporter Roll is made of 400 D nylon with TPU laminate which makes it extremely robust and resistant to the daily attacks of an intensive use.

The access to the interior of the Transporter Roll is via a Roll top opening with an adjustable aluminum closing buckle to fit the volume transported.

Two independent side pockets allow you to store items such as a water bottle for quick access.

But that's not all, the Transporter Roll wants to be an urban bag, so it had to offer a solution for the transport of urban objects.

It's therefore equipped with a padded sleeve designed to carry a 15-inch laptop, a tablet and small accessories such as hard drives and other dongles.

For safety while riding on public roads, the Transporter Roll is equipped with an attachment point for a flashing LED light.

The bag also offers a top handle when you don't want to carry it on the shoulder.

Use

The bag is constructed in a funnel shape with a wider opening for easier loading and a narrower back so as not to hinder movement in the crowd.

The roll top closure system is practical, fast and very durable to withstand intensive use. No risk that the zipper will get tired then that there is none .

This is also why New York messengers use this kind of closure on their bag !

The volume of the bag can be increased to its maximum by reducing the number of closing turns. For extreme situations, you can even skip the roll and just close the strap.

Of course it better not be raining that day !

The two carrying straps are padded enough to carry large loads without your shoulders having to suffer from it. A removable abdominal strap stabilizes the bag for transport while riding a bike.
