I would like to thanks Leatherman and HomBel for putting this bracelet at my disposal to perform this test.
The idea of this article is to provide a brief test, concise and objective.
Leatherman Tread, the first Every Day Carry Multi tools bracelet
First impressions
The packaging of the Tread is very well finished, design and sober.
A packaging research was made by Leatherman. Forget about the plastic blister as it existed before for some multi tools.
It felt more like unwrapping an Iphone or a jewelry than a multi tools. A real effort was made on the development of the box.
At first sight, the Tread impresses with its volume, especially in its maximum length.
Personally, with my small wrists, I had to remove two meshes to get it fit. The operation is very easily performed with a simple screwdriver. Simply remove the desired number of meshes. Because every mesh is removable, you are free to choose the tools you will not need. For my part, the mesh for opening diving cylinders valve wasn't usefull, so I chose to withdraw it.
Once adjusted to my wrist, the Tread immediately felt very comfortable. If you are used to a wear steel watch, you will forget the weight of the Tread in a few minutes.
Thanks to the articulation of each mesh, the bracelet doesn't interfere in the movements of the wrist and the mesh don't tear your wrist hair apart.
The quality build, which Leatheman has accustomed us, is irreproachable. The Tread is built to last.
And what about the style of the Tread ? It's style is devastating ! Everyone notices it and ask questions about it.
Everyday Use
The Thread is very pleasant to wear. Personally, I wore mine 24/7, except during swimming workouts. I do not like to have something on my wrist while swimming.
Thanks to the inward bend of the bracelet, the Tread doesn't cling into the clothing or skin. The closure buckle is well finished and very precise. Despite the hard trainings, the bracelet has never opened unexpectedly.
The Tread is Airport Friendly so you can even wear it on an plane.
I didn't have the opportunity to test it through the safety of an airport. But I tested it at the safety gate of a federal building and it ditdn't make any problem.
Use of the bracelet as a Multi Tools
The first test was with the Hex drive for the setting of my saddle's bike.
The efficiency was stunning. The bracelet, once in the palm of your hand stiffens and becomes a powerful and safe tool.
Second test, as a screwdriver to tighten the screw of a longboard deck. It was also perfect, the phillips screwdriver tip fits perfectly into the screw and the tightening is very secure.
I then tried the pin for extracting the sim cards. I used it to extract the pins of a watchband. No worries at all, the pin of the bracelet didn't even bend.
I also wanted to try the cutting hook. I first tried it on different packaging, plastic and cardboard and then tested it on a seat belt.
Let's be honest, on the packaging it works just fine, on a safety belt it's a different story. It was a bit difficult for the hook to cut the edge of the seat belt. But once it was started, the rest of the cutting was smooth. Of course, this will not replace a professional webbing cutting hook, as used by emergency services, but let's face it, this is not what the bracelet is meant for.
For whom and for what use?
The Tread is destined to anyone looking for a functional, innovative bracelet with a killer style.
It will not replace your old Multi Tools, but it could get you out of trouble whenever needed.
An example ? When I train on my road bike, I do not carry my Multi Tools. One day, I found that my handlebar clamp screws was a bit loosened. Thanks to Tread, I was able to tighten up and finish my training.
In conclusion
Leatherman once again surprises us with a great innovation. The manufacturing quality is impeccable, the style is unique. And with it's 25 years warranty you will keep your bracelet for a very long time....
Whether your are a sports fan or an outdoor fan, the Tread is a great way to supplement your EDC range and deal with any eventuality !
